U.S. Military Converts C-17 Carrier Aircraft into Mobile Vaccination Clinic

Following the approval and subsequent nationwide rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine, the U.S. Air National Guard announced it converted one of its C-17 Globemaster III airlifters into a mobile vaccination clinic to administer the vaccine to activated guardsmen on Hawaiian islands. The C-17 aircraft is operated by 154th Wing Airmen, based out of Oahu, according to a Air national Guard release published Thursday. A joint team of medical, logistical and operational guardsmen were transported from Oahu to neighboring islands to vaccinate guardsmen who are assigned to the COVID-19 response effort. FAA Approves COVID-19 Vaccine for Pilots and Controllers

The FAA determined pilots under conditions of their FAA-issued airmen medical ceritfication and FAA Air Traffic Controllers, who are subject to FAA medical clearance, may receive the Pfizer, Inc. COVID-19 vaccine. This announcement came following the Emergency Use Authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Admnistration for Pfizer, Inc's COVID-19 vaccine.  New York National Guard Army Maj. Stephen Carson prepares a New York COVID-19 vaccination area on Dec. 16, as part of a Defense Department vaccine pilot program in which 44,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine are being administered to frontline medical personnel around the world. DoD Stockpiles COVID-19 Supplies in Anticipation of Second Wave

The U.S. Department of Defense has a four-month supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) in preparation for an anticipated increase in COVID-19 cases. The supplies include respirators, gloves and masks for to assist military personnel and their families through the second wave of COVID-19. These supplies aren't part of the department's pandemic reserves, and were instead procured by the Defense Logistics Agency to help replenish on-hand stock for military services and geographic combatant commands.  A clinical nurse assigned to Naval Medical Center San Diego, administers a swab to test a patient for COVID-19.
